Policy Statement
The º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø (º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø) is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment where all students can thrive. The college strictly prohibits hazing in any form. Any student or employee found responsible for engaging in hazing activities may face disciplinary action from the college and potentially criminal charges under Idaho law.
º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø encourages all students, faculty, and staff to promptly report any concerns or incidents of hazing to protect the integrity of our campus community.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment by strictly prohibiting hazing in all forms. Hazing undermines the integrity, dignity, and mutual respect the college strives to uphold. The º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø prohibits hazing as a condition of membership, advancement, or continued standing in any student organization, group, or team affiliated with the college.
This policy complies with:
- The Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA) ()
- Idaho Criminal Code Section
- The º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Student Code of Conduct
The policy outlines definitions, prohibited behaviors, prevention strategies, reporting procedures, and enforcement guidelines to maintain a safe and equitable campus.
Definitions
Student Organization
As defined by the Clery Act, a student organization is any group (such as a club, society, association, athletic team, club sports team, fraternity, sorority, band, or student government) that includes two or more students enrolled at the institution, whether or not the organization is officially recognized by the college.
Hazing
Hazing is defined as subjecting another person, voluntarily or involuntarily, to any activity that:
- Causes bodily danger or physical harm
- Creates a likelihood of bodily danger or physical harm
- Abuses, humiliates, degrades, or endangers an individual’s mental, emotional, or physical well-being
Consent to hazing is not a defense under this policy.
Student
Any person registered or in attendance at the º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø.
Policy
Scope
This policy applies to:
- All º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø students
- Student organizations (including but not limited to athletic teams, student clubs, and student government)
- Faculty, staff, volunteers, and alumni affiliated with student organizations
It covers both on-campus and off-campus activities, whether they occur on property owned or controlled by the college or at events sponsored or sanctioned by the college. This policy applies regardless of whether the individual subjected to hazing appears to have consented.
Prohibition
Hazing is strictly prohibited at the º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø. Examples of prohibited hazing activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Total or substantial nudity
- Compelled excessive ingestion of any substance (food, alcohol, drugs, or otherwise)
- Wearing or carrying obscene or physically burdensome items
- Physical assaults or offensive physical contact
- Transportation and abandonment of individuals
- Confinement to unreasonably small, unsanitary, or unventilated spaces
- Sleep deprivation
- Assignment of humiliating or dangerous pranks
- Personal servitude or coerced physical activity causing undue fatigue
- Verbal abuse or threats
- Exposure to extreme weather without appropriate protection
- Acts of humiliation, intimidation, or degradation
Hazing shall not include reasonable and customary:
- Athletic training and conditioning
- Law enforcement training
- Military training
- Organized contests, competitions, or supervised events consistent with institutional policies
Awareness and Prevention
The º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø is committed to promoting hazing awareness and prevention through:
- Mandatory annual training for student leaders, athletes, and members of student organizations
- Campus-wide marketing and awareness campaigns on the signs and dangers of hazing
- Public access to the hazing policy online and in student handbooks
- Ongoing campus campaigns, guest speakers, or workshops to reinforce anti-hazing expectations and education on the topic
Enforcement
Investigation Process
All reports of hazing will be taken seriously and promptly investigated by the CARE (Campus Assessment Resource Education) Team or assigned designee. Investigations may include:
- Interviews with involved parties
- Review of documentation or digital evidence
- Coordination with local law enforcement as needed
The college will strive to conclude investigations within 90 business days whenever possible. All investigations will ensure fairness and impartiality for all parties involved.
Reports may be submitted anonymously, though this may limit the college’s ability to fully investigate.
Retaliation against any person who reports hazing or participates in an investigation is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.
Penalties
Individuals and organizations found responsible for hazing may face disciplinary actions, including:

Individual penalties: warnings, probation, suspension, expulsion
- Organizational penalties: suspension of activities, loss of official recognition, and/or permanent ban from campus
Criminal penalties may also apply under Idaho state law.
