Admission Steps

The Practical Nursing Program (PN) at the º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø prepares graduates for entry-level practical nursing practice and eligibility to apply for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Admission process are competitive and aligned with program outcomes, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. 

Program Announcements

The Practical Nursing Program (PN) will implement a revised curriculum beginning Fall 2026.

  • The revised curriculum applies only to newly admitted cohorts with a start term of Fall 2026 or later.
  • Changes have been made to admission prerequisites and application requirements. Carefully review all requirements.
  • Program changes include the sequencing and scheduling of nursing courses and revised program outcomes or licensure eligibility.

Students admitted before Fall 2026 will continue to follow the academic plan in effect at the time of their admission, in accordance with college policy and accreditation standards.

The curriculum revision supports student progression, instructional effectiveness, and ongoing compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.

Applicants should review the academic plan associated with their intended start term to ensure accurate planning.

General Admission Requirements

  • Apply to the º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø. All applicants must be current students within º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø at the time of application.
    • Note: Admission to the College does not guarantee admission to the Practical Nursing Program.
    • Transfer student must request that official transcripts be sent to the º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Registrar or request through the  prior to the application deadline. All transfer courses must be evaluated for acceptance at º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø before submitting the application.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, calculated from required program prerequisite courses (for any prerequisite courses completed before application submission.)
  • Achieve a minimum ATI TEAS score of 58.7% within six (6) months of application.
    • Maximum of three (3) attempts within a six-month period.
    • A two-week waiting period is required between attempts.
  • Current, non-expired Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or successful completion of NURP 103 (Introduction to Practical Nursing).
    • CNA certification or NURP 103 will be accepted through the Fall 2027 cohort.
      • Beginning with the Fall 2027 cohort, NURP 103 will be required for all applicants, regardless of CNA certification status.
      • A waiver is available for CNAs with greater than or equal to 5 years of verified experience.

Admission decisions are based on a competitive ranking process using the Practical Nursing Admission Score Sheet. 

Application Deadlines & Notifications

Current application submission deadlines:

  • Spring Admission Deadline: December 9
  • Fall Admission Deadline: June 1

Beginning with the fall 2027 cohort:

  • Spring Admission Application Open: August 1
  • Spring Admission Deadline: October 1
  • Fall Admission Applications Open: March 1
  • Fall Admission Deadline: June 1

Applicants will be notified of admission decisions via email within one week of the application deadline through their º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø.edu email account.

The PN application process does not currently maintain a waitlist. Applicants who are not admitted must submit a new application for future consideration. If a waitlist is initiated, applicants will be notified of their standing but must still reapply for the following cycle. Applications do not carry over; they must continue to meet admission standards.

 

ATI TEAS Testing Information

  • Applicants should plan up to 3.5 hours to complete the ATI TEAS examination.
  • Testing is conducted at the º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Testing Center.
  • Study resources are available online and through the .
  • Scores must meet minimum requirements at time of application.

Arrival Deadlines (subject to change):

  • Monday - Friday: Arrive by 3:30 pm
  • Saturday: Arrive by 9:30 am

Late arrivals will not be permitted to test.

 

Program Capacity

Students may apply without having completed the prerequisite courses. Prerequisites courses may be completed in the first semester of acceptance, before actual nursing program courses begin. Students who apply with completed prerequisites are required to maintain a GPA of 2.5 and earn at least a C in all courses. Please carefully review the academic plan for program structure. All courses must be completed with a grad of C or higher to progress in the program:

  • MATH 123 Math in Modern Society
  • BIOL 105 Human Structure & Function
  • BIOL 105L Human Structure & Function Lab
  • ENGL 101 English Composition
  • PSYC 101 General Psychology
  • NURP 103 Introduction to Practical Nursing
    • CNA certification and ALLH 101 Medical Terminology or NURP 103 will be accepted through the Fall 2027 cohort. Beginning with the Fall 2027 cohort, NURP 103 will be required, regardless of CNA certification status.

Additional Requirements

If Math and Science coursework are completed before application, both courses must be completed within the past five (5) years of application submission.

Applications are scored once the qualified applicant pool exceeds 30 applicants.

    • Current copy of CNA license (front and back)
    • Unofficial transcripts (include º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø)
    • ATI TEAS Results
    • Copies of any of the following, if applicable:
      • Copy of health-related field credential (i.e. Rad Tech, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Tech, Medical Assistant, etc.)
      • Documentation of health-related work experience

Post-Acceptance Steps

Admission to the PN program is conditional upon continued compliance with program, institutional, and clinical agency requirements. An additional background check is required before beginning the second year or third semester, whichever is first.

Students must:

  • Demonstrate and maintain functional abilities as outlined in the º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Department of Nursing Required Health Declaration and Physical Examination form.
  • Meet all requirements in the Practical Nursing Requirements Estimate of Required Costs document.
  • Comply with clinical agency policies, including health, safety, and background requirements.
  • Adhere to all policies in the º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Department of Nursing Student Handbook.

Failure to meet progression or compliance requirements may result in dismissal from the program.

Health & Compliance Requirements

(Required prior to program start, orientation packet will be sent with detailed information after acceptance.)

  • Physical examination (within six (6) months of acceptance)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR (must remain current throughout the program).
  • Continuous health insurance coverage throughout the program (can't be supplemental)
  • Required immunization and screenings:
    • COVID-19 (exemptions accepted)
    • Annual influenza vaccine (exemptions accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series or positive titer
    • MMR series or positive titers
    • Tdap (current within ten 10 years)
    • Annual tuberculosis screening - Interferon Gold
    • Varicella services or positive titer

Students must comply with all clinical agency requirements to participate in clinical experiences.

 

Orientation Requirement

Attendance at a mandatory in-person orientation is required before the start of the semester. Failure to attend will result in forfeiture of the admission seat.

Criminal History Disclosure & Licensure Eligibility

Criminal history, including misdemeanor or felony convictions with in the past five (5) years, may affect admission, clinical placement, program progression, or licensure eligibility.

Graduation from the PN does not guarantee eligibility to sit for the NCLEX-PN. Licensure determinations are made solely by the applicable state board of nursing.
