Clinical Simulation Lab
Benefits of Clinical Simulation
- The means to practice scheduled, valuable learning experiences. Such experiences are difficult to obtain in real life.
- The ability to practice and use hands-on, critical thinking, procedures, decision making and effective communication in a safe learning environment.
- Critical teamwork behaviors such as managing a high workload, trapping errors and high-stress situations can be taught, practiced and reviewed.
- Working in a simulated environment allows learners to make mistakes without punitive action or the need for intervention by instructors to stop patient harm. Allowing the students to see the outcome of their mistakes and gaining powerful insight that gives the student the knowledge to learn from the consequences of their actions. This reinforces the importance of “getting it right”.
- The simulation also offers the ability to accommodate a range of learners. Beginners can gain confidence and “muscle memory” for tasks, While experienced learners can better master their skills.
- The simulation also has the ability to produce situations that do not present enough opportunities for practice during actual clinical experiences.
- Real events and the pace of actual healthcare operations do not allow for the best review and learning experience. This then takes away from why things took place or how to improve performance. While controlled simulations are immediately followed by debriefings that can be supported by video review.
VISION STATEMENT:
The º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Simulation lab dedicates itself to providing high quality, student-centered environment for all Health Science disciplines. By attempting to provide thorough evidence-based simulation education a realistic environment, where students engage as active participants in situations that will prepare them with the skills to provide safe, effective patient care.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø simulation laboratory provides a safe environment for teaching, learning, and research for students and faculty. The Simulation lab will provide an active learning environment for the promotion of student acquisition of knowledge, skills, and professional communication that is essential in providing and improving upon quality patient care.
